ASTON, PA — The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) Announce Showcase Stars for Week 22 Stars of the Week. These selections come from the Broad Street Battle Showcase from March 6th through March 9th.
EHL
Northeast Conference
Nicky Degeorge (F) Seahawks Hockey Club
The EHL is proud to announce its leading scorer as a Northeast Conference Showcase Star. Seahawks Hockey Club sensation Nicky Degeorge added another eight points to his stacked resume. He kicked off the Showcase with three goals and an assist in their 4-2 win over the New Jersey Bears. He showed no signs of slowing down with a three point game against Hockey Club Rhode Island. He finished the showcase with a whopping four goals and four assists.
Aidan Cruz (F) Seahawks Hockey Club
‘06 forward Aidan Cruz also played a pivotal role in the Seahawks Hockey Club’s Broad Street Battle Showcase sweep. Factoring in every game, he began the event with an assist in their first game before a pair of multipoint efforts. He set up a pair of goals, including the game winner, against Hockey Club Rhode Island before scoring his first of the Showcase against the New York Apple Core.
Andrew Duval (F) Valley Jr. Warriors
With a busy Showcase schedule, the Valley Jr. Warriors split with a pair of wins and a pair of losses. Their Captain, Andrew Duval, was a bright spot throughout. He scored the late, game-tying goal in their comeback win over the New York Apple Core. He potted another against the Connecticut Nor’Easter before scoring both Warrior goals to close out the Showcase. The two-time All Star has eclipsed twenty goals now in his age-out season.
Mason Scanlon (D) New Hampshire Avalanche
Mason Scanlon had an impressive weekend at the Broad Street Battle Showcase for the New Hampshire Avalanche. The ‘06 boasted the lone assist on the Avs’ game winner against the Connecticut Nor’Easter, which opened their Showcase. He followed that up with a game winner of his own against the Philadelphia Little Flyers to help the Avalanche to the Showcase sweep.
Colin Duffy (D) Seahawks Hockey Club
Finishing up a trio of Seahawks Hockey Club Showcase stars, Colin Duffy shined on SHC’s blueline this past weekend. The assistant captain has now more than doubled his numbers from last season with an assist in each of their three wins. He assisted the game winner in their win over the New York Apple Core. They return to action this Thursday against the East Coast Wizards.
Nick Hussar (G) New Hampshire Avalanche
Nick Hussar is the second member of the New Hampshire Avalanche to earn a Showcase Star honor. The January Goaltender of the Month shut the door on all fifteen Connecticut Nor’Easter shots in a 3-0 win on day two of the Showcase. He then turned aside 22 of 23 in their 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Little Flyers. With four straight wins, he has now reached twenty wins on the year, with four shutouts. They’ll host the Express Hockey Club on Saturday.
Mid-Atlantic Conference
David Cook (F) Philadelphia Hockey Club
Philadelphia Hockey Club went a perfect 3-0 at the Broad Street Battle and Arcadia commit David Cook played a role in each win. He had a pair of assists in their shutout victory over the Bridgewater Bandits. In a 2-1 win over the Express Hockey Club, he scored the opening goal and added a game winner against the New York Apple Core. He leads PHC in points with 49 as they gear up to take on the Pennsylvania Huntsmen next.
Gage Winter (F) New York Apple Core
In an up-and-down Showcase, Gage Winter was phenomenal for the New York Apple Core. The recent King’s College commit collected six points across their four games. The All Star had a trio of three point games, kicking off with a goal and an assist in their win against the Philadelphia Little Flyers. He then had a pair of assists in each of their following two games. With 73 points on the year, Winter has cemented himself as one of the best in the EHL with three games remaining on their schedule.
Ernests Muska (F) HC Rhode Island
The young guns from Hockey Club Rhode Island continue to steer the ship as ‘07 Ernests Muska found the scoresheet in all three games at the Broad Street Battle Showcase. He had the helpers on both regulation goals in their overtime win over the Express Hockey Club and added another apple against the Seahawks Hockey Club. To wrap up the Showcase, the Latvian tallied the overtime winner to secure another win for the kings of the Central. They’ll take on the Connecticut Nor’Easter on Thursday.
John Danks (D) New Jersey Bears
John Danks has likely closed out the race for goals by defenseman after a four-goal Showcase, which helped the New Jersey Bears to a 2-1 weekend. The ‘05 New Jersey native potted both NJB goals in their lone loss of the Showcase before adding two goals and an assist across their two wins. Danks has 35 points on the year, sixteen of them goals. The Bears will have some time off before taking on the Pennsylvania Huntsmen next week.
Troy Mulholland (D) New Jersey 87’s
Those New Jersey 87’s defensemen continue to steal the show. All Star blueliner Troy Mulholland put up three points in the 87’s three wins at the Broad Street Battle Showcase. He assisted the game winning goal in their 4-2 win over the East Coast Wizards before scoring his lone goal of the Showcase, a shorthanded beauty against the Bridgewater Bandits. He added another helper in their third game, helping his team to a Showcase sweep. The 87’s will return to play against the Philadelphia Little Flyers.
Conner Nicolson (G) Providence Capitals
1100 saves for Conner Nicolson as an ‘07: not bad. On a personal three game win streak, he led the Providence Capitals to a pair of wins at the Broad Street Battle Showcase. He began with a 34-save performance in a 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Little Flyers. The Caps would win by the same score against the Express Hockey Club, where Nicolson would turn aside another 30 to eclipse 1100 saves on the year. He boasts a .924 save percentage on the year.
EHL Premier
Northeast Conference
Nate Gravel (F) Express Hockey Club
Kicking off our EHLP Showcase Stars is Express Hockey Club Forward Nate Gravel, who led all of the EHLP in goals at the Broad Street Battle. He had a pair of hat tricks, one against the Pennsylvania Huntsmen and one against the Philadelphia Little Flyers. He also had a pair of points in the Express’ 5-2 win against the New Jersey 87’s, where he scored a shorthanded goal. They’ll head up to New Hampshire to take on the Avalanche this weekend.
Mason Ballard (F) New Hampshire Avalanche
The New Hampshire Avalanche will have another key piece for their playoff run in ‘08 forward Mason Ballard. He collected at least a point in every Showcase game as the Avalanches swept their schedule. Within his four goals, he tallied a power play, shorthanded, and game winning goal. He also added two assists against the Philadelphia Little Flyers. Ballard now has eight points in ten games with the Avs.
Wade Larson (F) Connecticut Nor’Easter
Wade Larson led the way for the Connecticut Nor’Easter during their Showcase, where they collected two wins in their four games. Larson scored in their first game, a narrow loss against the Pennsylvania Huntsmen. However, it was in their third game against the Atlantic City Seals, where he dominated. He assisted a trio of goals in regulation before scoring the overtime winner. The Connecticut native wrapped up the Showcase with a goal and an assist against the Philadelphia Little Flyers. He now has 33 points on the year.
Will Link (D) Providence Capitals
All Star defenseman Will Link recorded five points over the course of the 3-1 weekend for the Providence Capitals. After an assist in each of the first three games, Link scored a goal against the Pennsylvania Huntsmen and assisted the game winner. He also registered a goal in the EHLP All Star game. Link leads all defenseman in points with 41.
Hayden Cunningham (D) New Hampshire Avalanche
Veteran defenseman Hayden Cunningham was a consistent find on the scoresheet in the New Hampshire Avalanche’s Showcase sweep. He had a pair of two assist games in the latter half of their schedule. He had the assist on the game winner in their win over the New Jersey 87’s, which secured a perfect Showcase. He has now reached his rookie season’s point total in eight fewer games.
Trey Cantu (G) Providence Capitals
The Providence Capitals had a strong weekend of goaltending at both levels, now taking home Showcase Star honors at the EHLP level as well as the EHL. Trey Cantu won both of his starts, first defeating the Atlantic City Seals in a shootout. He stopped 37 shots before turning aside another four in the shootout. He followed that up with a 22 save victory of the Pennsylvania Huntsmen. He now has seven wins on the season with a .909 save percentage.
Mid-Atlantic Conference
Anthony Farrell (F) Atlantic City Seals
The Atlantic City Seals had a tumultuous Broad Street Battle Showcase, going 1-0-2 in a trio of back-and-forth games. Forward Anthony Farrell was a consistent piece in each, recording three multipoint games for a total of seven points. His biggest performance came against the Seahawks Hockey Club, where he opened the scoring and assisted the power play game winner as part of a 5-4 win. He finished the Showcase with a goal and an assist in another one goal game against the Connecticut Nor’Easter.
Tomass Vekselis (F) New Jersey 87’s
The New Jersey 87’s All Star ‘08 forward has extended his point streak to six games after a solid Showcase performance. Tomass Vekselis began the Showcase with a goal against the Express Hockey Club before leading the 87’s to victory with two goals, including the game winner, against the Connecticut Nor’Easter. The Latvian forward closed out the event with an assist in their final game. They’ll turn their attention to the Union Jr. Thunder this Friday.
Owen Myers (F) Philadelphia Little Flyers
Owen Myers had an eight point weekend as the Philadelphia Little Flyers collected a win at the Broad Street Battle Showcase. He kicked off the Showcase with an assist against a familiar foe in the Union Jr. Thunder, but took center stage against the Express Hockey Club. He scored a whopping six goals en route to a wild 9-6 win. He added another helper against the New Hampshire Avalanche. PLF returns to play with a matchup against the New Jersey 87’s on Saturday.
Simon Zavorka (D) Union Jr. Thunder
Simon Zavorka’s sophomore season has been nothing short of remarkable for the Union Jr. Thunder. His fourteen goals and 26 assists are amongst the best in the EHLP. His goal and assist to kick off the Showcase led Union to a win over the Philadelphia Little Flyers. The All Star then added another assist to his resume in their matchup against the Providence Capitals. UJT will host the New Jersey 87’s this Friday.
Justin Linhares (D) Atlantic City Seals
Veteran defenseman Justin Linhares has been a productive member of the Atlantic City Seals’ blueline, and he added another three points at the Broad Street Battle Showcase. After a quieter first game, he tallied a goal and an assist, leading the Seals to a statement win over the Seahawks Hockey Club. In their overtime loss to the Connecticut Nor’Easter, he found the scoresheet again, with a crucial helper. He now has sixteen points in nineteen games.
Declan McNamara (G) Atlantic City Seals
All Star goaltender Declan McNamara has earned a reputation as one of the best goaltenders in the EHLP. The ‘07 faced north of 40 shots in both his starts at the Showcase, earning the win in the latter. He turned aside 40 in a loss against the Providence Capitals, helping his team to an important point in the Mid-Atlantic playoff race. He defeated the Seahawks Hockey Club after another 37 saves. They’ll host the New Jersey Bears this Friday to kick off a three game home stand.
