EHLP alums are making an immediate impact on high-level club hockey rosters
In the ever-changing world of junior hockey, development is key and it is even more crucial in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).
With players’ faith in programs dependent on trust, those that play junior hockey need to have destinations in mind. The primary goal of the EHLP is to advance players on to the EHL level, and ultimately to NCAA hockey. However, for those that choose the EHLP for their primary destination in junior hockey, it has provided a seamless route to the club hockey scene.
The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) boasts three men’s divisions for competitive, non-NCAA college hockey. The EHLP has provided a pipeline for players to grow physically and mentally during their time within it, and be important members of their club hockey programs.
Last year’s EHLP championship winning New Jersey 87’s sent a trio of players to Division I William Paterson University: Alec Osher (pictured), Anthony O’Brien, and Frankie Smith. Osher, the 87’s former captain, already has six points in just ten games, picking up where he left off in the EHLP. Anthony Rosa, who played for the Valley Jr. Warriors, is also on the team.
From the Union Jr. Thunder, Paul Rubinshteyn (pictured) is in his second year at Division I Rutgers University and has matched his goal total from his freshman season. Brandon Larraga played two seasons for UJT, and is now suiting up for the University of Alabama’s Division I team as well.
The Seahawks Hockey Club placed a pair of forwards at University of Missouri’s Division I program. Both Gavin Henderson and Maxwell Greco spent multiple seasons with SHC, playing games at both the EHL and EHLP levels. Henderson is now in his third year with the program.
With growing competitiveness at both the NCAA and club level, the importance of a player knowing their options and the pathway each provides cannot be overstated. For those with their eyes set on club hockey, the EHLP’s proof is in the pudding.
