HCRI Forward to Join Pilgrams in Fall
Warwick, RI – Tyler Genovese, a forward for Hockey Club Rhode Island (HRI) has committed to New England College for the 2025-2026 season.
An 04’ out of Wilbraham, MA, Genovese completed his first and only year in the EHL, earning a commitment. He posted one goal and five assists in 33 games, scoring his first goal against Central Division rival, Connecticut Nor’Easter.
“Tyler is a guy that showed up and played from the moment he got here,” HRI Head Coach James Mello said. “He was a great teammate and contributed to the culture we have tried to build here at HC Rhode Island since day one. He is such a coachable player. I could not be happier for him and his family that he will take the next step in his hockey journey at New England College.”
Genovese joins a growing list of players from the EHL joining the Pilgrims for the 2025-2026 season. He is the first from the Central Division for this year’s class.
“I’m very excited to further my academics and athletics at New England College,” Genovese said. “I can’t thank my family, teammates, and coaches enough. I wouldn’t be here without them and the support I’ve received. I would like to thank all the staff at HCRI for all the development and support I was able to receive this past season and am grateful to now be an alum of such a great ‘hockey family.’ I’m excited to see what the future holds at NEC.”
“As an organization, we want to express our happiness for Tyler and his entire family,” Rhode Island General Manager Toby O’Brien said. “They are a hockey family, as his father is a longtime Connecticut high school coach and former assistant at New England College. His top choice for many personal reasons was NEC all year, so we are very happy that this has worked out for him. As a player Tyler is the prototypical ‘rink rat’ – a ‘dog of a bone’ type who just absolutely loves the game and his teammates – the type of guy you want good things to happen for.”
